Increasing the speed of route learning by up to 20%
Route learning is time consuming, expensive, and essential. Working with several freight operators we are using video technology and data capture from experienced drivers to provide focused route learning that will reduce the number of times a route has to be driven before a driver becomes confident and competent.
The platform is ready and we expect to demonstrate a minimum 20% reduction in the time required for drivers to become competent with a route.
If you would like to help shape this cost cutting initiative or would just like to discuss the platform in more detail please contact us here or book a meeting @Innotrans here
How remote performance data will help speed up driver training?
Driver shortages, recruitment, retention, and retirement are major considerations facing our global rail industry today. The scale of issues facing freight and passenger operators can only be solved by exploring a broad range of innovative solutions, including how training technologies can speed up training, reduce skills fade and provide operators with valuable data visibility.
Here at Devona, we are working with our colleagues at @Assesstech to look at how performance data, captured remotely from drivers using tablet rail simulators, can be recorded and reported in Learning Management Systems. Early results are extremely encouraging with benefits identified in several areas.
For Drivers: as support to help build and personally assess self-confidence on new, unusual or difficult procedures at any time and, when ready, to submit performance reports to enable discussion with assessors based remotely.
For Assessors: the ability to collect and analyse real time skills and performance data from drivers using simulation apps remotely, enable more accurate training gap analysis, and more easily identify individual training needs.
For Operating Companies: Big picture dashboard visibility of real time competency levels across the entire enterprise, enabling informed decisions, better planning, and cost efficiencies.
We are looking to work with forward thinking operators to help shape this next stage of rail training development. If you would like to get involved or would just like to discuss it in more detail please contact us here or book a meeting @Innotrans here
How Virtual Reality will help speed up remote assessment in rail training
Virtual reality has been a technology looking for a home for many years. It’s been tried and tested including at @Innotrans however it has never offered a universal benefit to rail training, until now…
As part of our blended solutions range to support drivers and assessors, we are working with select operators on how the combination of 3D modelling and advanced virtual reality hosting platforms can help support and speed up driver assessment.
Advancements in virtual reality now offer an opportunity to provide virtual supervision and assessment for maintenance and driving procedures. Full cab simulators and in-cab training are limited by numbers, and remote self-paced training or eLearning is limited in terms of interaction with supervisors. Supervised procedural training in virtual reality allows multiple users participating remotely and real time interaction with assessors.
